Calvin Powell

Dindon in La Cage will be Calvin Powell’s first role with a TaDa! theatrical show, after many years of performing in Our Divas Do Christmas. He is very excited to be a part of this production as La Cage is one of his favourite Broadway Shows! He has been hailed by The Globe and Mail as having “Arresting authority, beauty of sound and crystalline diction”. He has been a guest of many leading NL performing arts groups including the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, PCNSO, Rising Tide Theatre, Atlantic Light Productions, Best Kind Productions, The Spirit of Newfoundland, Peter MacDonald Productions. The Hot Earth Ensemble, The Atlantic String Quartet, Gussied Up Productions, Theatre St. John’s, Bay of Islands Musical Arts, Shallaway and Quintessential Vocal Ensemble.

He has appeared nationally with Vancouver Opera, Tapestry New Opera Works, North York Chamber Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company Chorus. Calvin is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Opera Division and holds a Masters in Music performance & pedagogy from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is in demand as a teacher, adjudicator and coach/clinician for Musical Theatre, Opera, Classical Voice and contemporary vocal styles. Oratorio/Chamber credits:  Brahms Requiem, Faure’s Requiem, Messiah, Lord Nelson Mass, Elijah, Carmina Burana, Belshazzar’s Feast, Dover Beach, Footpath and Stile.
