Glenn Rice (Woodwinds)

Glenn Rice

Born and raised in St. John’s, Glenn started studying the clarinet in grade 5, under the direction of Vincenza Etchegary.  He quickly developed a keen interest and aptitude for the instrument.  At the age of 15, Glenn won the Kiwanis Junior Rose Bowl.  The following year, he won the Kiwanis Senior Rose Bowl, the Woodwind Category at the Provincial Music Festival and represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the National Music Festival in Kamloops, BC.  Glenn went on to win the Kiwanis Senior Rose Bowl in both 2006 and 2008.   He again won the Provincial Music Festival Woodwind Category in 2008, representing the Province at the National Music Festival in Edmonton, AB. Over the years, Glenn has had the privilege of studying under the direction of Vincenza and Grant Etchegary, Lorne Buick, and Paul Bendzsa.  In 2012, Glenn joined the NSO as Principal Clarinetist.  In 2014, he was featured with the Atlantic String Quartet as a guest soloist and again in 2020, in the NSO Sinfonia Series.  He also performs in various local groups and productions.  Glenn started studying carpentry in 2010.  He is nationally accredited holding a Red Seal in Carpentry and a Masters Certificate in Project Management.  He currently works in Technical Services at Memorial University.  Glenn resides in Bay Bulls with his wife Jillian and their daughter, Audrey.
